Products Containing Palm Oil

‘Ready meals’, bread, cakes, ice creams, cereal, biscuits, chips, crisps, margarine, chocolate, paints, soaps, make-up, shampoo, shower gels, washing powders, fabric softeners and more...

Often ‘vegetable oil’ is written on a product’s ingredient list, the consumer then does not know if they are eating sunflower seed oil, rape oil or palm oil – as such, palm oil it is often a hidden ingredient.

Is there a consumer logo for "contains no palm oil"? I'm thinking of something like the "dolphin-friendly" logo on tuna tins. There certainly should be!

I have seen an 'orang-utan friendly- sticker on some wholefood products but as such I do not know if this has been taken up by any major suppliers or producers. I suspect it was a slightly cynical attempt to boost sales of a product which contained NO palm oil anyway... like those 'Fat Free' fruit juices you see sometimes.

The issue is the legitamacy of any sustainability certification implemented. To date there is NO certification and unfortunately palm production occurs in areas of the world more inclined to see bribery and corruption as a way of business (not that far behind the "developed" world are they?)
